MANILA, Aug.12 – Philippine delegation chef-de-mission, Cynthia Carreon, this early, expressed her gratitude to the government for supporting Team Philippines’ campaign in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Carreon , a director of Philippine Olympic Commitee (POC) and also the president of the local gymnastic federation, see in high spirits during Thursday’s send off for SEAG-bound athletes said, all our requests were granted by the government.
“All our athletes have received their sporting equipments,” said Carreon, noting “some arrived late, we got it ,but its better than nothing.”
She emphasized the huge government support by way of financial assistance, through the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) was a big factor and it sustained athletes fervor.
Carreon said the assistance granted to them (athletes), especially their foreign exposures, shall keep their high level of performance during the competition days.
She described her role as head of the Philippine delegation “very challenging its because this new administration also is learning how to do things, making sure they don’t go into trouble, you know like in giving financial assistance.”
With less than a week before the biggest regional sports conclave officially opens on August 19, Carreon rallied Filipinos not only to watch but to cheer our athletes.
Several days ago, PSC executive director Carlo Abarquez reported that the initial total cost of Philippine campaign in the regional meet amounted to PHP285 million, including the PHP163 million allotted for the training (foreign exposures) of a number of athletes. He hinted that it may cost the government to a high of PHP300 million, including the cost of actual participation in the regional meet.(PNA)
