MANILA -- Michael Martinez will be heading to Pyeongchang after all.

The Philippines' top figure skater will make his second straight Winter Olympics appearance after one of the competitors for the said meet was forced to back out.

Martinez failed to land a spot in the Winter Olympics after only finishing eighth in the Nebelhorn Trophy competition, where the top seven finishers clinched a place in the February 9 event at the South Korean city.

Martinez was placed first on the waitlist.

However, the Swedish Olympic Committee barred Alexander Majorov from competing in the Winter Olympics despite making the cut during the European Championships as his score was short of the SOC's cutoff for qualification, leaving Majorov with no choice but to accept his fate despite a growing call for him to be reinstated.

Barring a reversal of the SOC decision, Martinez looks to improve on his 19th place finish in Sochi in 2014. (PNA)
