4.6-magnitude quake jolts northwest Iran

TEHRAN -- An earthquake measuring 4.6 on Richer scale shook suburbs of the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan late on Monday.

According to reports by the seismography center affiliated to Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the quake occurred in Iraq and suburbs of Mirabad (West Azarbaijan).

The quake took place at 10:50 p.m. local time at the depth of 10 kilometers underground.

No casualties or damage to properties has so far been reported.

Iran sits on major seismological fault lines, making it one of the world's most quake-prone countries. (IRNA)
