DAVAO CITY -- The Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO 11) will augment city police forces to intensify security measures for the prestigious Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao on March 25.

PRO 11 spokesperson Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz said on Wednesday's AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing, there would be more than 500 personnel who would be deployed from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11 (RMFB 11) and other operatives of PRO 11 in areas of Davao City and Davao del Norte, particularly in Panabo City, Carmen and Tagum City.

"They will be deployed in the areas on March 22 until 26," she said. Driz said the augmentation will help the operatives of Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office (DNPPO) intensify the security coverage during the big event.

She said there would be area supervisors who would man the security coverage in a certain area and these leaders would deploy personnel at 50 meters distance to each other.

"Based on the initiatives of the area supervisor, he or she can transfer other PNP personnel available on the field if a certain area is already crowded," she said.

Driz said the crowded places of the race would be given priority so that the players would not be distracted by spectators and their fans since there are foreign athletes who would be participating in this event.

"There are celebrities and other personalities who will be joining and it is possible that the crowd will mob them, so we really need to pre-empt it," she said.

She said the additional police officers would also conduct 'Oplan Sita' or random checkpoints on the roads near the activity area.

Driz said all security forces are 90 percent ready to secure the event as of the press time and there the Inter-Agency Task Group is now finalizing the measure that would be implemented.

The race will begin with a one-loop swim at the beautiful property development of Azuela Cove in Lanang where they will go back for their first transition. They will exit going to the main highway to start the 90km bike course.

The fast, single loop bike course heads all the way to the turnaround point at Tagum City which will pass through Panabo City and Carmen.

Participants will then head back to Azuela Cove for the second transition. They exit out to the flat roads of J.P. Laurel Avenue towards the commercial district of Davao to complete the two-loop 21.1km run. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
