Cuyom, Willy break girls 100-meter hurdle records

BANTAY, Ilocos Sur -- The two old records in the girls 100-meter hurdle races are now gone.

Eliza Cuyom and Trixie Willy set the new Palarong Pambansa distaff hurdle records on Thursday at the Quirino Stadium.

Cuyom led CALABARZON's 1-3 finish in the high school division, breaking Michelle Patasaha's 22-year-old record after finishing the race in 14.5 seconds, 0.4 second faster than the old record.

Evangeline Caminong took the bronze with a time of 15.44 seconds.

Ellah Sirilan of NCR took the silver with a 15.18-second finish.

On the other hand, Willy, from Western Visayas, took the gold in the elementary hurdles at 16.3 seconds, 0.1 second faster than the old record set by Jesusa Ampunan in 2010.

NCR's Naesren Macabangkit took the silver after crossing the finish line at 16.63 seconds, while Wency Eli of Eastern Visayas grabbed the bronze after finishing the race in 16.76 seconds. (PNA)
