BANTAY, Ilocos Sur -- Western Visayas zoomed back to the second spot in the Palarong Pambansa medal tally as most of the medals on the line on Thursday have been given away.

As of 7:38 p.m., Western Visayas got 29 golds, 23 silvers, and 35 bronzes in total, just behind NCR, which had a relatively slow day in its gold hunt.

Western Visayas got 14 golds for the day for second spot, enough to overtake CALABARZON, which got only eight for the day.

NCR, on the other hand, only got five golds for the day, although it was still enough for it to keep the overall lead at 42 total golds.

CAR also breached the 20-gold mark with 21 total first place finishes with 13 silvers and 14 bronzes.

Barring the remaining events with podium implications for Thursday, the general championship will be decided on the final day of competition on Friday, where all but one of the remaining gold medals will be at stake. (PNA)
