BIÑAN CITY, Laguna -- Stallion Laguna survived going one man out to shock Davao Aguilas, 3-0, in the tail end of the Philippines Football League’s (PFL) back-to-back treat at the Biñan Football Stadium on Sunday night.

Despite losing Jason Cordova due to a red card, quick goals from Carlo Polli and Jhan-Jhan Melliza midway through the second half did the trick for Laguna as the club handed Davao, which played minus Phil Younghusband, its second straight loss.

Cordova, who played for Davao last season, was sent off in the 65th minute following a hard tackle on James Younghusband.

Polli, however, received a pass from Fitch Arboleda and struck the ball past Nick O'Donnell, who showed brilliance at the post in the first half, for the 69th minute goal.

Then in the 76th minute, Melliza received the goal kick of Hayeson Pepito and blitzed past everyone for the 2-0 tally.

Melliza put the icing on the cake in the second minute of stoppage time, getting the ball back after O'Donnell saved his first attempt and put the ball back in.

Laguna zoomed to fourth place in the league table, overtaking Marikina, which lost to Iloilo at the said venue on Saturday night, on goal difference.

Led by a hat trick from Jordan Mintah, Iloilo vented its frustrations on Marikina for a 4-1 win that solidified its hold of third place in the standings. (PNA)
