MOSCOW -- Malaysian police on Thursday raided the home of former prime minister Najib Razak in an unfolding corruption scandal, local media reported.
"No documents were taken, nothing of note, only personal possessions," his lawyer, Harpal Singh Grewal, was quoted as saying by The Star daily.
Police simultaneously searched four other locations, including an apartment in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur and the prime minister’s office.
Razak was banned from leaving the country last weekend, minutes after announcing on Facebook plans for an overseas trip together with his wife.
The crackdown on the former prime minister, whose party lost a snap election this month, comes amid accusations he played a role in the embezzlement of state funds and obstruction of justice. (Sputnik)
