MANILA -- Perpetual Help's men's football team overhaul is now underway by naming its new coach for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

And he needs no further introduction.

The Altas are tapping former national team star Chieffy Caligdong as their mentor for the upcoming NCAA season.

“We feel that a legend like Chieffy Caligdong could help us revive out football program and possibly win us an NCAA championship if not this year, but in the near future,” said Perpetual Help team owner Dr. Antonio Tamayo in a statement on Tuesday.

Tamayo bared that Caligdong's new job has already begun by recruiting players from his hometown in Iloilo, the top football hotbed in the country.

“He will bring in several players from Barotac Nuevo and we’re excited of the team’s future already,” added Tamayo.

Caligdong was part of the 2010 Azkals team that made a breakthrough semifinal appearance in the AFF Suzuki Cup, which sparked the squad's rise to the top of the Southeast Asian football echelon.

He also starred for Air Force in the UFL and is currently the star for Green Archers United in the Weekend Football League. (PNA)
