Cebu City tennis player Enriquez wins men's singles gold

CEBU CITY -- Cebu City's Norman Joseph Enriquez defeated elder brother Marc Norman, 7-5, 6-3, to win the men's singles gold medal in the Philippine National Games tennis competition on Friday at the City Green Tennis Court here.

Marc Nicole Suson, also representing Cebu City, and Noel Damian of the Philippine Soft Tennis Academy (PSTA), received the bronze medals.

The Enriquez siblings later collected the doubles gold when they beat Davao's Butch Dela Cruz and Jonathan Palac, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 in the doubles final.

Francisco Santos and Nathan Sonco of Puerto Princesa and Klyde Lagarde and Jeric delos Santos of General Santos City settled for the bronze medals.

In the women's division, Marian Capadocia of the National Team demolished PSTA's Melanie Faye Dizon, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the singles gold medal in the tournament organized by the Philippine Sports Commission and supported Smart and STI.

Davao City's Socorro Trumpeta and Lourdes Manulat were awarded the bronze medals.

In the doubles competition, Capadocia and Dizon defeated Cebu City's Zethley Mae Alferez and Elizabeth Abarquez, 6-0, 6-4, to win the gold medal.

Cebu City's Pherl Bless Coderos and Shyne Villareal and Davao City's Jessica Carcueva and Trumpeta got the bronze medals.

In the mixed doubles event, Norman Joseph Enriquez and Alferez collected the gold medal after pulling off a 6-4, 6-3 victory over PSTA's Mark Anthony Alcoseba and Tracy Llamas in the final.

Davao City's Gabriel Perez and Manulat, and teammates Palac and Trumpeta bagged the bronze medals. (PNA)
