MANILA -- Topex Robinson will stay on as men's basketball coach of the Lyceum of the Philippines University.

Lyceum announced on Thursday night that Robinson inked a five-year extension to continue his job as the Pirates' mentor.

Robinson will also assume a concurrent role as Lyceum's first director for basketball operations, in which he will oversee the basketball programs of the entire system, that is, he will help in bolstering the varsity hoops teams of all of Lyceum's five campuses in Batangas City, Calamba, Davao City, General Trias, and Manila.

“We are happy to have extended a new contract to Coach Topex,” said Atty. Robert P. Laurel, LPU's president. “We believe he has done a great job and we are proud of the team’s achievements in these past few years.”

“I am very grateful to the LPU management led by Mr. Laurel and Mr. Andro Lopez who have been fully supportive of what we have been trying to achieve with the team,” added Robinson.

Robinson helped turn Lyceum from a struggling National Collegiate Athletic Association squad into the reigning Philippine Collegiate Champions League champion.

The Pirates also posted a rare 18-0 elimination round sweep in the NCAA last year are threatening again to dethrone the San Beda Red Lions as league champs after taking a twice-to-beat advantage in this year's semifinals.

“We hope we can continue to achieve and make all people connected to Lyceum of the Philippines University proud,” Robinson further said. (PNA)
