MANILA -- The Philippine Azkals fell prey anew in the AFC Asian Cup, this time to China, 0-3, at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

China’s Wu Lei broke the ice in the 40th minute as his chip inside the penalty area got past the Azkal’s Michael Falkesgaard and into the net.

Wu then completed the brace with another beautifully placed goal in the 66th minute, while substitute Yu Dabao put the icing on the cake with an 80th minute attack, just 15 seconds after he checked in for Gao Lin.

The win assured China a spot in the playoffs, staying perfect after two matches.

The Azkals, on the other hand, must convincingly trounce Kyrgyzstan, which is playing against South Korea on Wednesday night, to have a chance to sneak into the Sweet 16 as one of the best third placers. (PNA)
