MANILA -- To build an audience of art enthusiasts, a group of artists has launched a month-long art exhibit in a shopping mall in San Mateo, Rizal.
The San Mateo Artists Guild displayed some of its most precious artworks in SM City San Mateo last Sunday.
About 20 artists showcased their paintings in the fair that has sparked a growing interest from viewers since Mayor Cristina Diaz and Rizal’s home-grown coffee artist Ella Hipolito formed the group in the same month last year.
“Now that it has been one year with the art group, I felt empowered as an artist, knowing that there are actually more people out there like me, expressing their feelings through painting. I feel a sense of belongingness,” artist Jun Mendiola shared in an interview.
Mendiola, who has always seen himself as an introvert, has found comfort being in a like-minded community of San Mateo Artists Guild.
Apart from creating a vibe of inclusiveness, the group also aims to expand its skills in painting to the kids of the Autism Society of the Philippines San Mateo Chapter.

Its members teach the kids to draw and eventually paint on canvas bags, which they can sell as part of their fund-raising projects.
The art show, which carries the theme, "ARTsy heARt: creating happy experiences with heart", will be open for viewing until February 28. (PNA)
