GENERAL TRIAS CITY -- Residents here will soon be more connected to the rest of the world after the city government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Smart Communications for the rollout of free WiFi services in certain strategic areas, during signing ceremonies held Wednesday (March 27) at the Bayleaf Hotel in Barangay Manggahan.

Mike Nolasco, Smart's Business Head for South Luzon, signed the MOU for the telco, while General Trias City Mayor Antonio 'Ony' Ferrer, Cavite 6th District Representative Luis 'Jon Jon' Ferrer IV and Vice Mayor Morit Sison signed in behalf of the local government.

"Before, (mobile) devices were a luxury, now they are a necessity." Nolasco said in his speech.

Areas in the city where the free WiFi service will be available include the wet market, city plaza, city hall and the sports center, among others.

"Salamat po sa Smart sa pagbibigay ng libreng WiFi sa ating lungsod. (Thanks to Smart for providing free WiFi to our city), " Mayor Antonio Ferrer said.

Smart representatives said they target to deliver the free WiFi services to the city within one month after the MOU signing. (PNA)
