MANILA -- The largest collection district of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reached its collection target for April 2019.

Based on preliminary data, the Manila International Container Port (MICP) collected a total of PHP13.8 billion last month against its PHP13.6-billion target.

It added the Port contributed the largest sum of duties and taxes at about 25 percent of the PHP53-billion national target for April.

District Collector Atty. Erastus Sandino Austria attributed the positive collection to the men and women of MICP, and the various policies, systems, and programs they initiated.

"Congratulations on the job well done. Finally, the systems we implemented have borne results. Without everybody's participation, and cooperation, we wouldn't have been able to accomplish this,” he said in a statement.

He also acknowledged the Port's stakeholders, partners, and International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), North Harbor’s Port Operator, for working closely with MICP on its policies and programs.

The MICP was among the 12 collection districts that were able to hit their respective targets last month.

Others include Port of Limay, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Port of Cagayan de Oro, Port of Subic, Port of Cebu, Port of Davao, Port of San Fernando La Union, Port of Iloilo, Port of Tacloban, Port of Zamboanga, and Port of Legaspi.

On Friday, the BOC reported a surplus of some PHP1.7 billion in its April revenue.

The BOC–Financial Service said last month’s collection exceeded the target of PHP51.604 billion when they collected some PHP53.33 billion.

The April 2019 collection is higher by 14 percent as compared to the collection during the same period last year. (PNA)
