DINALUNGAN, Aurora -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office launched on Tuesday its Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (NSB) program in an effort to boost and encourage more barangay-based business ventures and other economic activities.

The initial launching was held in Barangay Simbahan in this town attended by local officials headed by village chair Alberto Pascua and some 100 residents who are fisherfolk, farmers, entrepreneurs, and cooperatives members.

DTI-Aurora Provincial Director Edna Dizon said the initiative aims to intensify the promotion and dissemination of the agency’s programs and services to help start-ups and micro enterprises in the villages.

“We want the various programs and services of our agency to really reach farmers, fisherfolk, ‘agripreneurs,’ and indigenous peoples, among others in order to promote inclusive growth,” Dizon said.

She said the DTI aims to conduct the project in selected barangays in fourth to sixth class municipalities of Aurora province.

The next village where the project will be launched next month is Barangay Mapalad, also in this town.

Similar to Negosyo Centers, DTI will coordinate with the local officials to introduce the program and solicit their support for its implementation.

“The program will continue and follow-ups for the small ventures will be conducted to provide assistance and possibly to refer them to small business corporations,” she added.

At the same, the DTI is also targeting 555 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region to be assisted under the indicative target NSB program area coverage.

There are 116 municipalities in seven provinces in the region of which 21 are municipalities under fourth to sixth-class classification and 311 barangays under fourth to sixth-class classification.

Dizon also said that a total of seven Negosyo Centers (NCs) have been established in this province except in the town of Casiguran.

The NCs are located in the towns of Dingalan, San Luis, Dipaculao, Maria Aurora, Baler, Dinalungan, and Dilasag. (PNA)
