DAVAO CITY – Filipino Dave “The Hunter” Penalosa tasted his first defeat in 16 fights after a heart-breaking unanimous decision loss to South African Lerato “Lights Out” Dlamini in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Friday (July 22).
With his victory against the 28-year-old Peñalosa, Dlamini improved his ring record to 13-1 and bagged the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) international featherweight title.
Dlamini is also an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Continental Africa featherweight champion, a title he won by points against Haidara Mchanio of Tanzania on Oct. 21, 2018.
Peñalosa-Dlamini tiff was one of the undercard matches of Amir Khan-Billy Din title fight for vacant WBC international welterweight crown.
Khan of United Kingdom stopped Din of Australia via a technical knockout in the 4th round and improved his record to 34 wins with 21 knockouts against 5 losses.
Michell “El Arsenal” Banquez of Venezuela beat Prince Patel of United Kingdom by a unanimous decision to win the vacant IBO World bantamweight title.
