MANILA — Marcus Hammonds scored the winning basket as Isabela City notched a win in the FIBA 3x3 Sukhbaatar Challenger on Friday night against Ventspils Ghetto, 21-19.
Hammonds drained the deciding two-pointer in the race-to-two overtime period to break a 19-all tie to steal the win from Ventspils.
However, the win was not enough for Isabela City to make the quarterfinals on Saturday as the team was required to beat Ventspils by seven points or more.
In fact, Isabela City had to come back from 14-18 down with Hammonds draining back-to-back deuces to force the 18-all deadlock.
Hammonds finished with 10 points while Franky Johnson added six points including a fadeaway jumper to force overtime.
Martins Steinbergs paced Ventspils, which will join Novi Sad in the playoffs, with seven markers.
