MANILA — The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) revealed its final roster for the Gilas Pilipinas Women team that will play in the FIBA Women's Asia Cup in Bangalore, India.
Through social media posts on Thursday night, the Gilas Women lineup for the continental competition consist of Kelli Hayes, Afril Bernardino, Jack Animam, Janine Pontejos, Gemma Miranda, Chack Cabinbin, Danica Jose, Khate Castillo, Eunique Chan, Marizze Tongco, Bea Daez, and Ria Nabalan.
Gilas Women look to put up a gallant stand against tough opponents Australia, China, and New Zealand in Group B of the preliminary stages in hopes of keeping its Division A status alive.
Gilas Women will first face Australia at 3:45 p.m. (Philippine Time) on Sept. 24 at the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bangalore.
Before Gilas Women travel to Bangalore, some of its players will see action in a special 3x3 exhibition on Friday at the SM Megamall Events Center in Mandaluyong City.
Pontejos, who etched her name in the global 3x3 ranks by winning the women's division shootout of the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, headline the women's players that will play in the said clash, along with Bernardino, Miranda, Nabalan, Cabinbin, and Castillo.
Joining them are Snow Peñaranda and Tina Deacon.
The said 3x3 game will take place during the playoffs of the Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas 3x3 Magiting Cup, specifically before the quarterfinals will commence. (PNA)
