SANTA CRUZ, Laguna -- The Department of Trade and Industry in Region 4-A (Calabarzon) will launch its Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) at the Cultural Center of Laguna here on Thursday, September 26.

The YEP is a nationwide program that aims to help young Filipinos develop their entrepreneurial skills through a comprehensive package of interventions.

DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez will be the guest-of-honor and speaker at the launch.

DTI-Calabarzon Information Officer III Mia Angeline V. Cortez on Monday said the event, a take-off from the YEP launching held at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City last June 27, targets some 350 participants, "majority of whom are aspiring and existing entrepreneurs aged 18 to 20".

Cortez added they also expect attendees who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET); in-school youth, youth organizations, and youth with disabilities from all over the region.

The event, which shall take place during the 5th Regional MSME Development Council (RMSMEDC) Conference, will also include participants from the Provincial MSME Development Councils, industry cluster leaders, development agency-partners, banks and financing institutions, the academe, non-government organizations (NGOs), and non-government agencies (NGAs), she added.

YEP, with its official tagline "Harnessing Our Own Resources for the Advancement of the Youth!", supports the government’s growth agenda of doubling the number of entrepreneurs in the country by 2022 which, in turn, will broaden the gains of economic development, address inequality, and uplift the quality of life of Filipinos, particularly the youth.

With the end goal of improving national development, YEP components encourage upbeat actions towards strengthening economic independence among individuals and communities. (PNA)
