Bowler Mervin Tan vows to do best in SEA Games

MANILA — Fresh from qualifying for the Bowling World Cup, Mervin Tan is now setting his sights on collecting the gold medal for the Philippines in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.

With him clinching a spot in the prestigious worldwide bowling event, Tan is now a cinch to make the national team for the SEA Games bowling competition that will be held at the Starmall Bowling Center in Mandaluyong City.

Adding to his portfolio are wins in 51st Singapore International Open last June, the 20th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championship in Malaysia last May, and the Philippine International Open, which also took place at the said venue.

"All the tournaments that I have won made me more confident. I am determined to do my best in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games," said Tan. “In my opinion, it was not magic. It is pure hard work and dedication.”

Right now, his goal to improve from his previous performances.

“I feel I'm not in my peak yet because I am just doing my best in every competition I play,” he said.

Among the other big names being considered for the national team are Kenneth Chua, Alexis Sy, Lara Posadas, Patrick Nuqui, Liza del Rosario, Frederick Ong, and Raoul Miranda.

Four male and four female bowlers will make up the final squad. (PNA)
