MANILA – Filipina Nesthy Petecio exacted vengeance on Japanese Sena Irie Thursday, scoring a 4-1 decision in their quarterfinal bout in the World Women’s Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia.

It was payback time for the Filipina bet, who was beaten by Sirie in the Asian Boxing Championships in April this year in Bangkok.

“I felt I wasn’t in top form in Thailand. Kaya ngayon talagang pinaghandaan ko ng mabuti ang tournament na ito (That’s why I prepared hard for this tournament)”, Petecio said.

On Friday (Oct. 11), Petecio will face the tall and lanky Kariss Artingstall of England in the featherweight (57kg) semifinal match.

The 27-year-old Petecio reached the quarterfinals via a hard-earned 3-2 victory against Chinese opponent Qiao Jieru on Tuesday. She defeated former two-time Olympian and world champion Stanimara Petrova of Bulgaria in her first match.
Flyweight Aira Villegas will have her quarterfinals bout against the top seed, Chinese-Taipei’s Hsiao Weng Huan.

Villegas scored a 5-0 shutout of Silpa Lao Ratu of Indonesia to advance to the quarterfinals. (PR)
