DAVAO CITY -- Joepher 'El Gwapito' Montano of Bago City retained his Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) super lightweight title after scoring a first-round technical knockout (TKO) over Benjie 'Wild Beast' Suganob of Zamboanga del Sur at the New Government Center in Bacolod City on Saturday.

It was the first title defense of Montano, who won the ABF crown via the 6th round TKO over Rodel Wenceslao of Leyte last March 30 in Bacolod City.

With his impressive win, the 23-year old Montano improved his ring record to 11-5-2 with 10 wins coming by knockout.

Last July, Montana failed to bring home the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia Boxing Continental and International Boxing Organization (IBO) titles after losing to hometown fighter John Ruba via split decision in Kupang, Indonesia.

The promoters of the boxing are Juan Ramon Guanzon and Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Team. (PNA)
