BIÑAN -- Bicol used a huge fourth quarter run to repulse Sarangani, 86-72, in a crucial MPBL Lakan Season battle at the Alonte Sports Arena here on Tuesday night.

The Volcanoes rolled in the final quarter, outscoring the Marlins, who led for most of the game, 29-14, to steal a crucial win that toughened its hold of the eighth spot in the Southern Division.

“Grabe sobrang importante ‘to kaya nga medyo sabi ko nga sa kanila, kailangan namin ‘to para magkaroon kami ng magandang edge sa kalaban (This is very important game and I told them we need to get it for good edge against our opponents),” said Bicol-LCC Stores head coach Mon Kallos. "They really wanted to be in the playoffs."

Ronjay Buenafe fired 26 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two steals, and one block for the Volcanoes, who moved up to 14-13, one game ahead of the Cebu Sharks and 1.5 games ahead of the Biñan City Heroes, who will play the Pasig Realtors later Tuesday at home.

Alwyn Alday added 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, and one steal off the bench.

Pari Llagas put up 21 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for the also-ran Marlins, who fell to 1-26. (PNA)
