DAGUPAN CITY -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) turned over a total of PHP9.13 million worth of equipment under the shared service facilities (SSF) project to cooperatives, groups, schools and local government units (LGU) in Pangasinan in 2019.

“A cooperative in Alaminos City was given a facility for processing of engineered bamboo which is worth PHP780,000, while the cooperative from Sual town received equipment for fish processing worth PHP845,920,” DTI-Pangasinan provincial director Natalia Dalaten said in an interview Monday.

Dalaten said a cooperative from Binmaley town got a bangus (milkfish) processing facility costing PHP933,250 while the Pangasinan State University (PSU) campus in Bayambang town was given PHP1.44-million equipment for incubating innovation for processed fruits and vegetables.

The LGU of San Fabian town benefitted a facility for candle making worth PHP500,000, she said.

An association of persons with disabilities in Mangatarem town also received tools and equipment worth PHP332,000 for native cake and pastries production last February 5.

“LGU Dagupan City is yet to receive their blast freezer for bangus processing worth PHP2.8 million as the fabrication of the equipment is still ongoing, while the tools and equipment for food processing worth PHP1.5 million for PSU (Pangasinan State University) Sta. Maria campus will soon be delivered,” Dalaten said.

Meanwhile, DTI-Pangasinan has proposed PHP7.5 million worth of SSF projects in the province this year.

Among the proposed facilities is a bamboo craft equipment for Bani costing PHP500,000; mobile fish grinders for Lingayen worth PHP800,000; sewing and cutting machines worth PHP800,000 for an association in Basista town; and dryers, blancher, oven, vacuum packaging machines and freezers worth PHP2 million for an association in Sta. Barbara town.

Dalaten added also included in their proposal for this year are PHP1-million fish processing facilities for Dagupan; PHP1-million cacao processing equipment for a cooperative in Pozorrubio town; mushroom processors for an association in Natividad town worth PHP900,000; and coffee processing facility for a cooperative in San Nicolas town worth PHP500,000.

“The SSF project proposal for Pangasinan this year was already submitted by our office for approval from the DTI central office,” she said.

SSF aims to improve the quality and productivity of microenterprises and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by addressing the gaps and bottlenecks in the value chain of priority industry clusters through the provision of processing machines or equipment for the common use of the microenterprises and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the industry clusters all over the country.
