DUMAGUETE CITY – This city will host the teachers' exams in March being designated as one of the testing centers in the country for the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) this year.

Provincial Administrator, Dr. Henry Sojor on Thursday said that more or less 2,000 examinees from the province as well as from other areas are expected to take the LEPT, which will be held at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) main campus here.

No exact date in March, however, was given, pending the finalization of the LEPT schedules in designated exam areas, he said.

Parents of Education students, graduates, and unlicensed teachers earlier asked Governor Roel Degamo to request for the holding of the LEPT here, which was usually held in Cebu.

The governor then wrote the Professional Regulation Commission, with an assurance that the integrity of the examination will be secured as well as the safety of the examinees and the examination personnel.

There are two LEPT examinations this year -- one in March and the other in September, Sojor said, noting that this would be the first time for Negros Oriental to be named as a testing center.

Sojor said the province is prepared to accommodate the exam-takers and personnel, having coordinated with NORSU, in terms of the number of classrooms and security concerns, among others.

On concerns regarding sanitation in view of the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the state university is taking all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of everyone, he said.

With regard the wearing of masks, the governor said it is upon the discretion of the exam-takers, personnel, and other people involved but assured the provincial government is ready to help whenever necessary. (PNA)
