MANILA – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez has assured that movement of cargoes and supply chain of basic goods shall continue after President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire Luzon under enhanced community quarantine.

Lopez told reporters in a text message Monday there is an ongoing meeting in the government discussing its next steps for the community quarantine in Luzon.

“Agriculture, manufacturing, and services like food preparation and deliveries and distribution of these basic necessities will still be allowed,” he said.

Lopez said supermarkets, drugstores, and banks shall remain in operation even with the enhanced community quarantine.

“Don’t panic. There will be food and necessities. (They) are more than enough. No need to panic,” he added.

Lopez further said enhanced community quarantine aims to further limit people’s movement and stop or flatten the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“Otherwise, cases continue to increase, transmission happens exponentially,” he said.
