MANILA – Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said Thursday that bills for March 17 to April 14 will be the average consumption for the past three months as the entire Luzon is still under the enhanced community quarantine amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak.

With the restricted movement of people during the enhanced community quarantine, the power distributor halted the reading of electricity consumption of customers for the current billing period.

“After this quarantine period, once we have a normal situation, whatever the deficit or the excess in the actual consumption, we will adjust it in the next billing cycle,” Zaldarriaga said in Filipino during the Laging Handa press briefing.

He added Meralco already announced a 30-day deferment of bills payment due from March 1 to April 14.

Zaldarriaga also assured customers there will be no power interruptions during the quarantine period.

“Meralco will continue to keep the lights on. We will continue serving our customers. We postponed maintenance and upgrading schedules of our distribution facilities so we can focus on providing adequate power supply to our customers,” he added in Filipino. (PNA)
