MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 230 new persons infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of positive cases to 5,453.

During the Beat Covid-19 virtual presser, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire reported 58 new recoveries and 14 new deaths.

The total number of recovered cases nationwide is now at 353 and while the death total stood at 349.

PhilHealth Vice President for Corporate Affairs Group Shirley Domingo said the hospital bill of patients who were admitted on February 1 to April 14 would be paid in full since Covid-19 is a new disease for which they do not have case rates yet.

However, those admitted beyond April 14 can avail of the following case rates: mild pneumonia - PHP43,997; moderate pneumonia - PHP143,267; severe pneumonia - PHP333,519; and critical pneumonia - PHP786,384.

"Malalaki pa rin ang case rates na ito. Based sa costing data, these are averages. Merong iba na mabababa, gumagaling na sila eh, yung iba 300 o 500,000, 'yung iba naman milyon talaga (These case rates are still high. Based on costing data, these are averages. Some are low, they get well immediately, others are 300 or 500,000, others spend millions)," she said.

Domingo said under the Universal Health Care law, even those who were not members of PhilHealth are now covered and can avail of the Covid-19 packages.

"Part of the guidelines, they register at least before they are discharged so they can be included in the database...they need to fill up the PMRF form and provide proof of identity, birth certificate or other acceptable documents that will provide their right name for the data base registration," she said.

She added that members who have missed contributions can avail of the Covid-19 packages.

"Sa mga ospital, huwag na natin hingin ng advance payments ang ating mga pasyente kasi nahihirapan din sila financially ngayon, ang sinabi po natin sasagutin iyan ng (To the hospitals, let's not request for advance payments from our patients because they're having a hard time financially at the moment, we said it will be shouldered by) PhilHealth whether full payment or case rate," she said.

Earlier, PhilHealth said Covid-19 patients confined in a hospital with violations and suspended PhilHealth accreditation will also be covered by the Covid-19 packages.

"We will give them what we call the IRM, these are like advance payments, so if they have Covid-19 cases, they can also manage them...Yes, kahit namatay po iyon, managed as Covid-19 patient, sasagutin po ng Philhealth depende sa (even though the patient died, managed as Covid-19 patient, Philhealth will still pay depending on the) date of admission whether full bill or case rate," Domingo said.
