Covid-19 cases now 12,942; 114 new recoveries

MANILA – The Philippines has recorded 224 new cases of persons infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total to 12,942 on Tuesday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that new recoveries reached 114, for a total of 2,843 since the outbreak took place.

There were six new deaths, bringing the death toll to 837.

Out of the 224 new cases, the DOH said 174 cases, or 78 percent, came from the National Capital Region; 17, or 7 percent, from Region 7 (Central Visayas); and the remaining 33 cases, or 15 percent, from other regions.

As of May 18, the DOH has a 13,310 total bed capacity dedicated to patients with Covid-19.

About 34.9 percent of the 2,653 ward beds are occupied, along with 37.1 percent of 9,320 isolation beds and 34.6 percent of 1,337 intensive care unit beds.

There are 1,942 total ventilators for Covid-19 patients and about 19.4 percent of them are in use.

A total of 46,168 beds are dedicated to Covid-19 patients in Local Isolation and General Treatment Areas for Covid-19 cases (Ligtas Covid) facilities across the country, and 1,348 beds in mega Ligtas Covid facilities. (PNA)
