MANILA – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) commissioner Willie Marcial said the players are hoping to go back to practice despite the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Following a briefing he organized on Tuesday at the league's office in Quezon City, Marcial said they expressed a united voice in returning to training.

In the briefing, he and Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro discussed to the players the new practice protocols.

The guidelines were approved at the PBA board level and now await the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

In the first days of resumed practices, only four players, a trainer, and another team staff member will be allowed to get into game shape at a time.

They must quickly depart the training facility to give way to the next batch of players and staff members.

Only those who test negative for Covid-19 will be cleared to return to practice and everyone should be tested, the PBA Board said.

The IATF's approval on the resumption of practices will factor in on the PBA's decision to resume its postponed season or cancel it altogether. (PNA)
