MANILA – Health and wellness company Amway Philippines expects growth in its business amid a global health crisis.

In an online media briefing Tuesday, Amway Philippines Country Manager Leni Olmedo said demand for health and nutrition, as well as home care products, increased amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“The trend in health and wellness not only accelerated during the pandemic, it has become a way of life,” he said.

Olmedo said Amway’s health and wellness products recorded double-digit growth at the height of the community quarantine compared to the sales in 2019.

Personal care products also had a double-digit growth during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period compared to January to March 2020 period, while home care products had higher sales during ECQ.

She added that nutrition has become a major influencing factor across households amid the pandemic, and quarantined consumers are also embracing the digital space for purchasing wellness products.

Not only consumers are shifting from physical to online stores, Amway Business Owners (ABOs) or the individuals that resell Amway products, are now also more active using online applications.

From an average of 8 percent of ABOs using the Amway online app, it grew to 70 percent, Olmedo said.

Moreover, Amway sees 130-percent increase in new ABOs between April and June 2020.

“And numbers are growing as Filipinos would try to find a way to replace whatever income that was lost and see opportunities in health and wellness,” Olmedo said, adding that when it comes to prioritizing health or livelihood, Amway can deliver both.

She added Amway is looking at 10-percent growth in ABO this year from its 80,000 ABOs last year.

Meanwhile, Amway Philippines will be launching Amway Exclusive Shopper to strengthen its digital presence.

Through the Amway Exclusive Shopper, customers can register for PHP300 and directly shop online.

Olmedo said ABOs will get incentives for Amway Exclusive Shopper sign ups, and purchases from them will also be assigned to ABOs. (PNA)
