Senate sports committee approves PSC budget

MANILA – The Senate Committee on Sports on Tuesday approved the proposed budget of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for next year.

In a virtual hearing set by committee chairman Christopher “Bong” Go, PSC chairman Butch Ramirez, Commissioner Mon Fernandez, and acting executive director Guilllermo Iroy presented how their request of PHP207 million will be allocated. Senators Imee Marcos and Nancy Binay also attended the panel deliberation.

The three PSC officials also proposed a separate PHP250 million budget for the national athletes' preparation for a very busy 2021, which includes the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, Hanoi Southeast Asian Games, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, Asian Youth Games, and the Asian Beach Games.

Go said during the online hearing that he is committing "to find ways to help the agency in its work for the national team".

He also lauded the PSC for the current developments regarding the National Academy for Sports.

Plenary deliberations for the PSC budget will commence at a later date. (PNA)
