MANILA – Despite their operations and sales being badly hit by the pandemic, a total of PHP359, 672 was remitted by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

The PSC was represented by Commissioner Celia Kiram and Cashier Maybelle Panis who formally received the check from PCSO Charity Assistance Department Officer-in-Charge Jerusa Corpuz in simple ceremonies at the PCSO Main Office in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City on Thursday.

The fifth remittance for 2020 brings this year’s PCSO total remittance to PHP1,816,527.

“PSC is so happy that despite the pandemic, PCSO generously gave their share for the development of sports” Kiram said.

The PCSO has been at the forefront of the country’s sports development program. In February alone, the PSC received a total of Php 1,456,854.96 from PCSO, a month before the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) lockdown in the country was effected.

In 2019, the PCSO released a total of PHP2.3 million to the agency, the same year when the country hosted and clinched the overall championship of the 30th Southeast Asian Games held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.

The funds are part of regular remittance of the charity agency as provided for in Section 26 of Republic Act 6847, which indicates that 30 percent representing the charity fund and proceeds of six sweepstakes of lottery draw per annum shall be given to the PSC to help fund the country’s sports development programs.
