GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The municipal government of Malungon in Sarangani province is set to start the development of its planned PHP100-million trade and business hub.

Malungon Mayor Maria Theresa Constantino said Wednesday they have been processing the requirements for constructing the Banate Commercial Business Complex in Barangay Banate.

Constantino said local stakeholders, led by the barangay council of Banate and the area’s market vendors association, have given the go-signal to implement the project.

“We’re working on commencing the initial phase within the first quarter of 2021,” she said in a statement.

The acting municipal engineer, Mark Anthony Zagales, said about PHP20 million has been set aside for the first phase of the trade and business complex project that would include a segregated wet market section.

Constantino said they pushed for the development of the trade and business hub in Barangay Banate to create an alternative growth center for the town.

“It will eventually serve as the central outlet and receiving core for products coming from its neighboring barangays, as well as other cities and municipalities,” she explained.

Constantino assured that market vendors who would be affected by the project would be prioritized in the allocation of business spaces at the business complex. (PNA)
