CEBU CITY – The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has called on the business community here to strictly implement the minimum health standards in workplaces.

“The Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic has brought massive destruction to business enterprises, the economy and the people's lives; let us not allow it to cause any more damage,” CCCI president Felix Taguiam said in a statement on Monday.

Taguiam said the “survival as a people depends on our ability to balance between health measures and the resumption of economic activities to provide livelihood to our people”.

In the past seven days, Cebu City has seen a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, prompting the Cebu City Emergency Operations Center to issue a public warning of localized lockdowns should the trend continue to rise.

As of Nov. 15, Cebu City has 170 active cases of Covid-19, 10,645 total cases, 9,802 recoveries, and 673 deaths, based on the Department of Health data.

“There is nothing to be alarmed of just yet, as there is no official information that the city is experiencing a second wave; however, the rising Covid-19 case should not be taken lightly of as we do not wish to go back to a stricter form of community quarantine,” Taguiam said.

As the Cebu City government intensifies the enforcement of the health protocols, monitoring, and apprehension of violators, he urged business operators to do everything possible to ensure that their workers, clients, and customers are safe and protected against contracting the coronavirus.

“The CCCI enjoins all sectors of the business community and the public at large to cooperate with the government as we consistently take measures to curtail Covid-19,” he said. (PNA)
