PH Covid-19 recoveries rise by 156

MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 156 more patients who have beaten the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), pushing the overall tally of recoveries nationwide to 408,942.

In its 4 p.m. case bulletin, the DOH said the figures represent a 92.1-percent recovery rate from Covid-19 among Filipinos.

It also reported 1,387 new cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 26,545.

Of the active cases, about 85.2 percent were classified as mild, 6.6 percent as asymptomatic, 2.7 percent as severe, 0.31 percent as moderate, and 5.2 percent in critical condition.

The country's death toll rose to 8,677 as seven new deaths were logged on Wednesday.

"Eight duplicates were removed from the total case count and three of these were recovered cases. Moreover, one case previously tagged as recovered was reclassified as death," the DOH said.

Batangas topped the list of areas where new Covid-19 cases were logged with 71 infections.

It is followed by Quezon City with 70, Davao del Norte with 64, Benguet with 59 and Quezon with 57 cases.

A Dec. 8, DOH report showed that 1,038 or 3.9 percent of 26,851 who were tested for Covid-19 turned positive.

The DOH also said it remains to have 21,300 total bed capacity for patients with Covid-19.

About 57 percent of intensive care unit beds, 60 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, and 74 percent of 5,900 ward beds are available for patients' use.

It added that 80 percent of 2,000 ventilators are also available for Covid-19 patients. (PNA)
