MANILA – Close to 2,000 applicants were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the online jobs fair conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) early this month.

“We were able to hire on the spot 1,900 (applicants) while many other applications are still under process. The hiring is continuous since we made available 21,000 jobs both local and overseas,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in a Laging Handa briefing Tuesday.

On Dec. 8, the labor department celebrated its 87th anniversary with a theme, “Ang DOLE sa Ika-87 Taon: Bayanihang Pagtugon sa Hamon ng Bagong Panahon” with the holding of simultaneous online jobs fair nationwide.

Bello also reported that there are jobs available for Filipino workers overseas including health care workers (HCWs) and skilled workers.

“The overseas is a good prospect since there are many (host countries) are requesting for our workers especially caregivers, nurses, and other HCWs,” he said.

In particular, he said job opportunities are available in three European countries.

“There is a very big demand for our caregivers and HCWs including skilled drivers in three countries, Czech Republic, Romania, and Poland,” he added.

Bello said countries such as Germany and United Kingdom (UK) are requesting thousands of nurses and medical workers while caregivers are needed in Israel and Japan.

“There is a big demand for HCWs in Germany as well as in the UK. We also have a request from Israel for caregivers. Japan also. So for our OFWs we have a very good prospect for them,” he added.

The government recently allowed newly hired nurses to be deployed abroad after lifting the temporary suspension on the overseas deployment of HCWs. (PNA)
