MANILA – The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) is reminding all local government units (LGUs) throughout the country to put up a Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS), a system that will make it easier for the public to transact with the government.

During the Laging Handa briefing Tuesday, ARTA director general Jeremiah Belgica said they will start inspecting the LGUs on Wednesday.

“This January, we will prioritize highly urbanized cities particularly in NCR (National Capital Region),” Belgica said.

He added the ARTA team will inspect LGUs’ compliance with the requirements of BOSS, and will also help them on how to establish the system.

BOSS is a single-window application system where the transacting public could submit all the application forms and documents in a single window only, avoiding the routing of documents and minimizing the number of steps.

The ARTA chief added that full automation of government services, including electronic signature and e-payment, is strongly recommended during this time of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic to avoid the risk of contracting the virus when transacting with government offices.

“It’s possible now because we have software made by DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) for electronic business permitting and licensing system,” Belgica said in Filipino.

He said e-signature and online payment systems are also being made available to fully automate government transactions.

“While we are automating our system, it is important that we also implement e-signature and online payment,” he added. “This is the direction our government is taking.” (PNA)
