DUMAGUETE CITY – The Bureau of Customs sub-port office in Dumaguete City has exceeded its target revenue collection for the year 2020 by more than PHP800 million.

Dumaguete Customs Collector Fe Lluelyn G. Toring in an interview Tuesday said that at the end of last year, their actual collection was more than PHP5.1 billion compared to the target set at some PHP4.3 billion.

This represents 18.39 percent or PHP801.5 million in revenues collected and from other sources.

The top three importers and their products that contributed to the gains are Filoil Energy Co., Inc. (petroleum), Dumaguete Coconut Mills, Inc. (palm olein), and Pryce Gases, Inc. (liquefied petroleum gas).

The past year saw a slow-down in revenue collection on some months, brought about by strict lockdowns amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, but as the restrictions eased in July and onwards, the sub-port office here managed to meet or exceed its monthly targets again, Toring said.

Meanwhile, the BOC has raised the target collection for its Dumaguete sub-port office to more than PHP5.8 billion this year, Toring said.

Despite the current pandemic, she is hopeful that they can reach their target by the end of this year.

Last January, her office exceeded the monthly target of PHP427.4 million by as much as PHP9.5 million or a variance of 2.2 percent, she said.

In a related development, the BOC central office has cited the Dumaguete sub-port office during the 119th Founding Anniversary of the agency last Feb. 9 for being the first ISO-certified sub-port in the country, Toring said.

The sub-port of Dumaguete earned last December the distinction of being the agency’s first among the 39 sub-ports in the entire country to be granted the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9001:2015 certification.

“The ISO sets standards for assessment. We have to address the 10-point priority program of Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, one of which is getting ISO-certified for quality management and efficiency,” Toring said. (PNA)
