Arman Armero
MANILA – Veteran sportswriter Arman Armero passed away at age 59 due to lingering illness Monday.
The Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS), the group behind the Usapang Sports Forum, where Armero is a panelist, first confirmed his passing.
"Lubos na nakikiramay ang mga bumubuo ng Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports at Sports on Air (the production crew of the online press conference series) sa pamilya ng beteranong sportswriter na si (The Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports and Sports on Air express their condolences to the family of veteran sportswriter) Arman Armero," the TOPS and the SOA said in a joint statement.
An obituary statement later confirmed that Armero died due to "lingering heart and kidney ailments."
A journalism graduate at Lyceum, Armero began his professional career as a sportswriter for People's Tonight, eventually becoming its assistant sports editor in 1991 amid the Philippine hosting of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games then.
Three years after leaving People's Tonight in 2002, Armero returned as a sportswriter when Manila Standard tapped him to be its assistant sports editor in 2005 when the Philippines hosted the SEA Games.
He would become a deskman for the Manila Standard a decade later.
People's Journal sports editor and TOPS president Ed Andaya, who was Armero's classmate at Lyceum, said on Monday night that Armero's remains will be brought to the St. Peter Memorial Homes in Novaliches, Quezon City on Wednesday. (PNA)
