MANILA – A unit of Hocheng Corp. (HCG), a leading bathroom equipment manufacturer, aims to expand its operation in the Philippines by producing and selling its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) screening device.
In a statement Tuesday, the Board of Investments (BOI) said executives of Hocheng Philippines Corp. (HPC) met with the agency’s officials to present their expansion plans in the country.
According to BOI, the company plans to produce Lenus, an anti-virus guard functioning as a thermal scanner and alcohol dispenser.
Lenus also uses voice prompts to alert users with no face masks to wear one upon entering the establishment.
HPC targets hospitals, healthcare facilities, business establishments, and consumer users as markets for Lenus.
At the onset of the pandemic, the BOI has positioned the Philippines as an investment destination for companies manufacturing products related to the fight against Covid-19.
“We are positioning the Philippines as a complementary host country to target companies, particularly those looking into diversifying their business locations to sustain and enhance competitiveness. HPC’s expansion plans additionally strengthen this positioning,” Trade Undersecretary and BOI managing head Ceferino Rodolfo said.
Rodolfo said with the passing of the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) Act in Congress, companies will benefit from lower corporate income tax rate and the new tax regime.
“By enticing them to invest in these industries, the outcome is a win-win for both businesses and the country. While we make their enterprises grow, we attract the highly-desirable investments that will serve the public interest especially in this time of the health crisis,” he said.
HPC opened its 10-hectare plant in First Cavite Industrial Estate in Dasmariñas City, Cavite in 1997.
It employs 850 personnel in its Cavite plant.
The company provides bathroom solutions and kitchen fixtures for residential, commercial, institutional, as well as tourism and entertainment used. (PNA)
