MANILA – The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), country’s largest business organization, has called on Filipino consumers to patronize locally-made products to help businesses thrive amid the pandemic.

“We are still reeling from a crisis that is unparalleled in recent history.  In the face of losses from reduced economic activity, we are calling on all consumers and industry users to support Philippine-made products. This is to help local businesses survive, rebound, and continue providing jobs for the Filipino people,” PCCI president Benedicto Yujuico said in a statement Tuesday.

The PCCI also launched the #PinasMunaTayo movement to support government’s initiatives to promote Filipino brands such as Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) ‘Buy Local, Go Lokal’ campaign, and Department of Science and Technology’s oneStore.ph.

PCCI director for industry Alfredo Yao has lauded DTI’s Build Lokal campaign as it aligns with the business group’s initiative to encourage local contractors, manufacturers, enterprises, and multinational companies to source their raw materials that are locally available.

“The PCCI recognizes that the Build Lokal campaign of the DTI aligns with our strategic thrust to support policy initiatives which will improve the overall local business climate and contribute to socio-economic development. As such, we fully support this campaign by the government to promote the consumption of locally-produced, quality building materials for public and private sector construction projects,” Yao said.

The business group likewise has recognized the national government’s effort to increase local sourcing as the General Appropriations Act mandates government agencies to prioritize local building materials for their infrastructure projects and other requirements for all their activities. (PNA)
