MANILA – Mandaue delivered a solid defensive stance to maul Siquijor, 66-46, in the nightcap of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup twin bill at the Alcantara Civic Center in Cebu on Friday.

The KCS Computer Specialist-backed Mandaue side clobbered Siquijor right at the get-go, holding them to just seven points in the first quarter and 20 by half-time even as they quickly built a double-digit lead.

Siquijor finally got things going in the third quarter, outscoring Mandaue, 21-14, to cut the lead down to seven entering the fourth, but in the final frame, Mandaue limited Siquijor to just five points to seal the win.

Gryann Mendoza paced Mandaue, which joined opening game-winner Talisay at the top of the standings, with 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc, three rebounds, and one block.

Fellow ex-FEU Tamaraw and PBA player Alfrancis Tamsi chipped in 12 points, two rebounds, and two steals.

Interestingly enough, Mandaue and Talisay will face off on Tuesday, making their match a showdown for the lead in the Visayas leg table.

Miguel Castellano was the lone bright spot for Siquijor, making 14 markers, eight rebounds, and two assists off the bench. (PNA)
