MANILA – Former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) star Mac-Mac Cardona will spearhead the Zamboanga City lineup that will play in the Mindanao leg of the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup starting May 30.

Cardona, a former PBA champion and Finals Most Valuable Player, has been tapped by Coach Tony Pardo to be the leader of a stacked lineup looking to give preseason favorites Brew Authoritea and Basilan a run for their money.

Joining Cardona are fellow ex-PBA veteran Larry Rodriguez and young guns Jhonard Clarito and Aaron Jeruta, who were his teammates with the San Juan Knights when they won the 2019 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League title.

Two more former PBA stalwarts, namely Gabby Espinas and Jaypee Belencion, were also named to the Zamboanga City roster as they look to regain the touch that made them stars in the National Collegiate Athletic Association during the 2000s.

Meanwhile, Jens Knuttel, Rudy Lingganay, Gino Jumao-as, Med Salim, and Kyle Neypes headline the homegrown players who will be part of the Zamboanga City lineup.

Completing the squad are Jonathan Parreno, Jayson Rebollos, Jeff Bernardo, Totoh Indahan, Jerome Ferrer, Wang Alvarez, and Niel Jumao-as.

Joining Pardo in the coaching staff are assistant coaches Ronie Gallo and Ken Basiri; strength and conditioning coaches Glenn Archangel and Robelino Sardena; and staff members Raymond Mapanao and Jaytone Rakim.

Also vying for the Mindanao pennant are Zamboanga Del Sur, Roxas, Pagadian, Ozamiz, and Iligan.

The winner of the Mindanao leg will take on Visayas leg champion Mandaue in the grand finals next month. (PNA)
