MANILA – The Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) on Friday recalled how former President Benigno Aquino III contributed to the betterment of the welfare of the workforce.
In a statement, ECOP cited labor-related laws passed during the Aquino administration that became “instrumental in advancing tripartism and prioritizing significant labor and social policy issues”.
These legislations include the Republic Act (RA) No. 10361, or the Domestic Workers Act; RA 10395, or the Strengthening Tripartism Act; RA 10771, or the Philippine Green Jobs Act; the Amendments of the Labor Code, mandating mandatory conciliation of all issues arising from labor disputes through the RA 10396; and the Amendments to the Public Employment Service (PESO) Act of 1999 through the RA 10691.
“PNoy shall also be remembered for the ratification of International Labour Organization Convention No. 189, which gives every domestic worker the right to a safe and healthy working environment,” ECOP said.
The employers’ group also recalls how the Aquino administration forged bilateral agreements on Standard Employment Contracts with receiving countries that employ a large number of Filipino domestic workers.
“The Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Aquino family for the untimely passing of former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III,” it said.
Aquino served as the 15th president of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016. (PNA)
