MANILA – The Integrated Cycling Federation of the Philippines (PhilCycling) is out to show everyone that Philippine sports can come back with a bang amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic through its upcoming road trials this weekend at the Clark Freeport Zone.
PhilCycling president Abraham Tolentino believes that all eyes will be at the metropolitan area in Angeles during the cycling event.
“Clark will not only be the epicenter of cycling, but of the entire Philippine sports this weekend as we conduct the trials amid strict health and safety protocols,” Tolentino said on Thursday. “And with these trials, we hope to show everyone that sports is capable of coming back.”
Tolentino, also the Philippine Olympic Committee chief, will grace the opening of the road trials on Saturday.
Bases Conversion Development Authority President and CEO Secretary Vince Dizon, Senior Vice President (Corporate Services Group) Arrey Perez, and Clark Development Corp. President and CEO PBGen. Manuel Gaerlan (Ret.) will be in attendance too.
The road trials begin with the women's individual time trials (ITT) scheduled at 8:30 a.m. Saturday to be quickly followed by the men's ITT.
The criterium events will then take place in the afternoon session.
The massed start road race will cap the road trials on Sunday.
A total of 111 cyclists will participate in the PhilCycling road trials, which will serve as a national team qualifier for the Asian Road Cycling Championships set from Aug. 16-23 in Rayong, Thailand, and the 31st Southeast Asian Games scheduled from Nov. 21-Dec. 2 in Vietnam. (PNA)
