MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte himself will personally meet the four Filipinos who won medals in the Tokyo Olympics to congratulate them.

The Philippine Sports Commission on Thursday said Duterte has set up a courtesy call on Aug. 23 at the Malacañang Palace in Manila for the Olympic medalists Hidilyn Diaz, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial.

Duterte will also hand out the cash incentives that have been pledged to the four sports heroes.

According to Republic Act 10699, Diaz, the first Filipino athlete to win it all in an official Olympic event by ruling the women's 55-kilogram weightlifting event, will receive PHP10 million.

Petecio and Paalam will take home PHP5 million each for their silver medal finishes, while Marcial will be getting PHP2 million for his bronze.

Duterte has also shelled out some cash from the Office of the President for the medalists.

Diaz will get an additional PHP3 million, Petecio and Paalam will get PHP2 million each, and Marcial will get PHP1 million.

Due to the restrictions due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, only a selected few have been invited to join the Olympic medalists at the Palace.

PSC Chairman William Ramirez, agency Commissioners Arnold Agustin, Ramon Fernandez, Celia Kiram, and Charles Maxey will be attending.

Also invited for the event are Philippine Olympic Committee president, Rep. Abraham Tolentino and Secretary-General Ed Gastanes, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Chairperson Andrea Domingo, and Team Philippines Chef de Mission Nonong Araneta. (PNA)
