MANILA – The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) was chosen by the International Competition Network (ICN) to lead the ICN Advisory Working Group, along with the Hong Kong Competition Commission and Colombia’s Superintendency of Industry and Commerce.
ICN is a premier organization of national and multinational antitrust authorities that promotes the highest standards of competition law enforcement.
PCC chair Arsenio Balisacan has welcomed the role in the ICN, noting that PCC’s selection is a recognition of its growing leadership in the international competition sphere.
The ICN Advocacy Working Group develops practical tools and resources to guide its members to raise public awareness on competition principles and foster competition culture across different jurisdictions.
“Antitrust authorities are the first to support the notion that there is no monopoly of good ideas in promoting competition law and policy. In this role, we are excited to collaborate with our peers and counterparts in promoting and adopting best practices through the ICN Advocacy Working Group,” Balisacan said.
He added the PCC will recommend best practices in competition advocacy from the perspective of a developing country.
PCC has been representing the country in ICN annual conferences since 2017.
This is the first time that the PCC is selected as co-chair of ICN advocacy group since the antitrust body was formed in 2016. (PNA)
