LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in Region 5 (Bicol) on Tuesday said a total of 163,285 Bicolanos were inoculated on Monday at the start of the three-day "Bayanihan, Bakunahan" national vaccination campaign against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

In a statement on Tuesday, the agency said the region ranks fifth nationwide in terms of the number of individuals administered vaccines.

Noemi Bron, Health Education and Promotion Officer of DOH-5, said the data is expected to increase as some municipalities are yet to submit their complete data.

"This is 45.80 percent of the 384,320 daily target set by the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) for Bicol Region. Some local government units (LGUs) and vaccination sites have yet to submit their data," the statement read.

DOH-Bicol reported that Albay administered the highest number of vaccine doses at 34,662; followed by Camarines Norte - 14,610; and Camarines Sur - 50,588.

The agency also encouraged the remaining unvaccinated individuals to submit themselves for inoculation as the "Bayanihan, Bakunahan" continues.

Vaccines have been proven effective in preventing severe and critical cases of Covid-19, the DOH said. (PNA)
